About the Course

During the Intensive Study Week (ISW), students are grouped together in closed cohorts for brief periods. They attend class for 15 hours weekly, equivalent to 3 hours daily, divided into two 1.5-hour sessions.

The first session is a topic-based, general English class, whilst the second delves into aspects of Irish culture. This cultural exploration is intertwined with the trips and tours that students will embark upon during their stay. Both sessions are designed to be communicative, interactive, and age-appropriate.

Our approach to language teaching is not rigid; instead, we embrace the current trend of principled eclecticism. The materials for the general English session are selected from contemporary course books, mirroring modern trends in language teaching methodologies.

The course caters to three proficiency levels: low (A1/A2), mid (B1/B2-), and high (B2+/C1). As students are organised into closed groups, it is not always feasible to align classes precisely with their actual language levels. Consequently, it falls to the teachers to tailor the material, either elevating or simplifying it as suits the needs of each specific class. Our teachers employ various communicative techniques and teaching strategies, ensuring that less proficient students receive sufficient support while more advanced learners remain engaged and challenged. Topics chosen are relevant to the students' lives and experiences, facilitating the personalisation of content in the classroom. This relevance is crucial for fostering student engagement and motivation.
